Who we work with
Our Clients
We welcome all asylum seekers and refugees in Knowsley to join our client base.
Asylum Seekers
The UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) defines an asylum-seeker as someone who is seeking international protection. Their request for refugee status, or complementary protection status, is yet to be processed.
War, persecution and human rights violations force people to flee their homes. When someone crosses an international border seeking safety, they often need to apply to be legally recognized as a refugee. While they seek asylum and await the outcome of their application, they are referred to as asylum-seekers and should be protected. Not all asylum-seekers will be found to be refugees, but all refugees were once asylum-seekers.
Seeking asylum is a human right and every person in the world has the right to apply for asylum if they are fleeing conflict or persecution. SHARe Knowsley provides support for Asylum Seekers through our drop ins.
Refugees
Refugees are people forced to flee their own country and seek safety in another country, and in the UK have had their asylum case investigated and approved by the Home Office. Refugees are unable to return to their own country because of feared persecution as a result of who they are, what they believe in or say, or because of armed conflict, violence or serious public disorder.
When someone has received refugee status in Knowsley, SHARe Knowsley provides ‘move on’ support. This includes support with setting up a bank account, looking for housing, applying for college courses and referrals to employability support agencies.
